Serves
4

Method

  1. In a bowl, combine all the marinade ingredients: soy sauce1/3 cup, Worcestershire sauce1 tbsp, liquid smoke2 tsp, tomato paste2 tsp, maple syrup2 tsp, nutritional yeast1 tbsp, garlic powder1.5 tsp, onion powder1.5 tsp, smoked paprika1/2 tsp, and water1/4 cup. Whisk until well incorporated.
  2. Thinly slice the tofu1 block into bacon-like strips. Transfer the tofu to the marinade and gently break apart into smaller, bacon bit-sized pieces. Cover and let marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Spread the marinated tofu and marinade in a single layer onto a large, greased baking sheet using @spray olive oil. If your baking sheet is small, cook in batches.
  4. Bake for 25 minutes, flipping the tofu halfway through, until crispy. Keep a close eye to prevent burning. Let cool completely before using.
  5. Makes several servings — feel free to use the remaining tofu bacon
  6. Try low and slow (down to 375 or lower)
